Honestly, I think that's the best that we can hope for. Being sidelined definitely won't help. He'll just get stuck in his own head about how he lets people down, or something.
I wonder if I could teach him record-keeping, so he can take the notes for us to re-read later. Then he can learn to recognize patterns from the clues, but he also doesn't have to have the firsthand experience of searching crime scenes.
