What are you going to draw?

[ a soft laugh. ]

Yeah, you got me. But hey - I asked you what you wanted. So what's something you'd like to see?

...can you draw a rabbit with a sunflower, maybe?

[ kazu takes a deep breath and shakes his head. ]

I don't know, man. That one's a real tough ask. I'm not sure if I can deliver.

[ ...he says, but the vibes are light, teasing, and he picks up the pencil and starts to draw. ]

[He feels those vibes, which calm down the panic and guilt that had started to build up for a moment there.]

...rabbits are Kyouka-chan's favorite animals. And I was growing sunflowers in the greenhouse.

[Until they all got destroyed. RIP sunflowers :(]

[ ...ah. there's a slight pause at the mention of the greenhouse, but kazu continues. there's a bun shaping up on the page, with a little sunflower crown. ]

Then we'll grow some more for you when it's cleaned up in there.

Tell me more about Kyou-chan? That's your BFF back home?

She is, yeah.

[His heart lightens a bit when he starts talking about her. Good vibes in here now!]

She's a newcomer to the Agency, just like me. We ended up as roommates too, since there was only one apartment left but two of us who needed an apartment. She's kind of like Vin, actually. Quiet, but she cares a lot.

Like Vinniko, huh? Then she must be supes cute!

So she's a detective, too?

She is very cute! But in that 'kid' way. She's fourteen and still pretty short even for her age.

And yeah! She's learning to be a detective too. I think in a few years she'll be one of the best.

A fourteen year old detective?! She must be, like, a genius!

A detective in training! But yeah, she's pretty smart. And very observant too.

[Let's leave out the part where she's a trained assassin.]

She sounds seriously impressive! You're lucky to know someone like her - they don't come around every day, you know!

[ he's detailing the flower crown as he says this. ]

They really don't.

[What a cute flower crown! He approves.]

...I hope she'll be okay on her own.

[ he'll start drawing a field with more sunflowers, and another bunny nearby. a fwiend. ]

It might be hard, but if she's that special, she'll get through it somehow. You guys are BFFs, but she's not alone back home, is she?

Yeah. She has the whole agency to keep an eye on her and watch her grow.

[A fwiend...he watches the bunny as its drawn to distract himself from the melancholy thoughts of "she doesn't need me, she probably won't even miss me". He knows that's not the truth, but badbrain.]

[ he feels that sadness, and sends reassurance back, as if to say "you aren't alone" as he draws a second flower crown on the other bun, this one featuring a little kitty charm. ]

She'll still miss you, though. She must be missing you now.

And if tomorrow is different from last week, we'll miss you, too. You know that, right?

[He has to stop mid-sentence though, because his voice is cracking and his face feels a little wet. Kazu can probably feel how Atsushi's emotions are welling up inside of him now too. But he manages to nod before reaching up to wipe at his eyes with the back of his hand.]

[ that's okay.

kazunari sets the sketchpad and pencil down and carefully pulls atsushi into a hug. ]
